6 Week Blind Tasting Level 1
During this course students will learn to assess the structural properties of wine and learn how to identify common grape varieties based on an accurate assessment of their aromatic and flavor profiles. This course teaches core tasting skills needed to be successful in wine exams administered by the Court of Master Sommeliers, and WSET (Wine and Spirits Education Trust).

There are no pre-requisites for this course other than being at least 21 years of age. Prior wine knowledge is beneficial but not essential. Anyone who is planning on sitting for the CMS or WSET exams will benefit from attending this course.

About your Instructor
Joseph Phillips is a Master Sommelier, and Director of Wine Education for Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits of Nevada. He has worked in the hospitality industry for over 35 years, starting off washing dishes at a coffee shop in Massachusetts, then working for Emeril Lagasse and eventually being an opening team member of Bellagio Resort in Las Vegas. At Bellagio Joseph worked as a Sommelier in Circo, Aqua, Sensi, and Michael Mina. He was also the Director of Wine for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He passed the Master Sommelier Diploma exam in 2008, one of 255 individuals worldwide to hold this title. He has also passed courses and exams from other organizations such as WSET, Wine Scholar Guild, and Italian Wine Central. He is an active examiner for the Court of Master Sommeliers.
