This course covers essential knowledge on beer ingredients and brewing process, beer styles, proper storage and service, tasting and evaluation, and sales techniques. It also prepares beverage professionals to pass the first level, Certified Beer Server™ exam of the Cicerone Certification Program.
The cost of this course is $100 and includes; a completion certificate from the SGWS for The Academy of Beer and Fine Service Basic Training Course, beer samples, and a meal prepared by our Chef and his team. The cost does not include the Certified Beer Server™ online exam which can be purchased separately at www.cicerone.org/

Samuel Merritt is Director of Beer Education and Quality Assurance for Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits of Nevada. He began his career selling specialty beer in New York City in 1996 for The Craft Brewers Guild and Brooklyn Brewery. In 2006 he founded Civilization of Beer, an independent beer education consulting company. In 2009 he became New York City’s first. Certified Cicerone® beer sommelier. Sam has been featured on The Martha Stewart Show, Sirius XM Radio, Thrillist.com, Seriouseats.com, CBS Interactive, FOX News networks, Edible Manhattan Magazine, The Somm Journal, SEVEN Magazine, Esquire Magazine, Saveur, New Brewer and All About Beer Magazine and more. Sam has instructed and inspired thousands of beer professionals over the course of his 20 year career and built a reputation as an ambassador for the industry. In September of 2013, he joined the beer division at Southern and now lives in Las Vegas with his wife Emily, young daughter Molly and his English bulldog Ophelia.
